My Last Book of My First Reading Challenge

This is it! My last book of my 2020 Reading Challenge. My only remaining prompt was "A fiction or non-fiction book about a world leader," and I figured there was no better choice than Barack Obama's memoir released just this month. My preference generally and for this challenge is reading books rather than listening. However, for memoirs/autobiographies, I love audiobooks.

I had struggled to choose a book for this prompt, but I am so excited to get into "A Promised Land." Obama is such a phenomenal speaker, and there is just something about his voice that is soothing and enjoyable. So I am more than happy to finish up this year's reading challenge with this book.

Reflecting on my year of reading overall, I am quite pleased. I have never tracked my reading this way, so I am not sure if this number of books is my norm, if it's the challenge or the fact that the majority of the year has been living through a pandemic, offering an abundance of time. My guess is it is honestly a combination of all of those things. Reading has always been and continues to be my favourite pastime, but the challenge provided me with choices and variety that I may not have considered otherwise. And indeed, reading has offered a comforting escape from the work as we know it at this time.

Just one month remains of 2020, and I am already looking forward to the stories I will read, the characters I will be introduced to and the many places my imagination will be taken with the reading I anticipate for 2021.
