A Quick Look At Your Values

One part of my identity is my career as a psychologist. And in this role, I generally practice from a theoretical orientation called Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT.) A major tenant of this theory is that if you can clarify what is truly important to you, in other words, your values, this knowledge will guide and motivate you to live your life better.

When I discovered ACT, it clicked for me. It clicked for my practice as a therapist, and it clicked with me individually. Lately, I have been reflecting more on what matters to me so that I can make better decisions about how I want to spend my time and the direction I want my life to be going. I’ve been looking at this on both a life scale and a day to day scale, how my daily habits can build to a preferred and valued life.

This weekend, I started to work on an activity that I regularly give my clients and want to spend quality time on myself. It’s called “A Quick Look at Your Values,” and doctor and therapist, Russ Harris, created it. I’ll include the link so that you can also consider engaging this activity, learning more about what your values are, which can guide you to how you want to behave and live your life on an ongoing basis.
