Little Joys
It’s so important to notice the little things in our lives that bring joy. I took some time to reflect on this and came up with five things in my life that fill my heart. I encourage you to join me in this exercise. Come up with a list of at least five things that bring a smile to your face and give you a little boost of joy. It was nice to be reminded of little things that bring me happiness and now to have a list to turn to when I need a pick me up.
Morning sunshine. Spring has finally arrived in Alberta, and I love it. The warmer weather is exciting all around, but it’s the golden, early morning sun that is my favourite. There is something about the warm, comforting glow of the day starting that is honestly wonderful.
A quiet cup of coffee. I’ve always loved a good coffee, but working from home has reminded me of the appreciation I have for sitting quietly and enjoying my morning coffee from my favourite mug. On the weekend, my husband and I enjoy a cup of coffee together to start our day, moments that make early rises on our days off totally worth it.
Soft socks. I have a constant struggle of enjoying being barefoot but also always having cold feet. My solution has been to have cozy, soft socks, so if I have to put them on, they’re a little treat!
A happy dog. I love my dog. Some would say I am borderline obsessed with her, that’s fine. But, seeing her happy or simply content fills my heart with joy. I swear this dog has the biggest personality, her face is very expressive. I love to see her “smiling” or just melted into some pillows, obviously content.
Ocean sounds. I grew up next to the ocean, I could hear the waves from my bedroom window. I have always experienced a lot of serenity being near the ocean. Living in Alberta, I don’t get to have that experience often anymore. Recently, I started playing ocean sounds while going to sleep, it’s created a little extra spark of joy and relaxation at the end of my day.
