Northern Lights
The night of May 10th into the early hours of May 11th, I was fortunate to experience the brightest Northern Lights I have ever seen. It is truly something that is hard to put into words. Knowing that this solar storm was happening, I drove to a range road a mere 20 minutes from home to escape the light pollution and was rewarded with a spectacular display of this phenomenon. The camera always exaggerates what is seen with the Aurora Borealis, but even still, to the naked eye, the colours were shockingly visible, and I was so excited. When I finally spotted the lights, I was overwhelmed by what I saw, laughing and jumping in excitement.
I was so engrossed in watching and taking photos that time passed in a blink. Suddenly, it was after 1 a.m., and we decided we should head home. The lights were settling a bit, and I was beyond appreciative of what I had seen. Reflecting afterward on how time had passed while we waited to spot something and then while we observed the skies, I realized what an incredible example of mindfulness being engrossed in the novelty of nature can be.
