My 5 Essential Travel Items

I have been working on finessing my packing for travel. I am focused on being more deliberate and minimal in what I bring on trips. This effort has also meant identifying quality items that serve their purpose well, are durable and in some cases meet a certain aesthetic. As I prepare for an upcoming international trip I’ve identified my Top 5 essential items.

Matt & Nat Backpack. This company has been my go-to for years now for bags. Their high-quality vegan materials have proven to be durable and sturdy over time. Their designs are simple yet beautiful, and while I always tend toward neutral colours, I appreciate their wide selection of hues. This backpack, in particular, was purchased in anticipation of upcoming travel. It’s been used for one trip so far, and I am so pleased. It has plenty of space inside for items I want on the plane and while exploring without looking bulky on my back. The straps feel sturdy and comfortable, and the two sections help with organization. This particular backpack is no longer available but you can explore other options here

Monos Suitcase. I purchased my first Monos suitcase a couple of years ago. At that time, I chose the Carry On Plus for shorter trips. This upcoming trip is the inaugural voyage of my Medium Check-In size. I purchased the suitcase in the gorgeous, limited-edition Terracotta colour, and I adore it. The Monos suitcases are super well designed with carefully thought out pockets and compartments. The wheels roll smoothly and silently, an experience I never knew I would find as soothing as I do.

Allbirds Wool Runners. As I searched for shoes that stay comfortable while travelling, I consistently came across Allbirds. When I travel, I do a lot of walking and exploring, so having a shoe that will withstand hours of this trekking is essential for me. I have yet to test them out with travel, but I have been so far impressed. As soon as I unpacked them, I was immediately impressed by how lightweight they were. Wearing them, I have plenty of support and feel like I am essentially wearing nothing on my feet! I love that these offer great support and comfort while also looking stylish and versatile.

Kindle Paperwhite. No matter where I go, I am going to have a book to read in my downtime. I’ve always travelled with books or given into my guilty pleasure of buying one in the airport. However, recently, I invested in a Kindle to cut back on space and money spent on books. It is the perfect travel companion for reading while travelling, eliminating the need for the somewhat cumbersome alternative of the physical book.

Icy Hot. This may seem like an odd inclusion. However, when I travelled to New York and spent my days walking (averaging ___ steps each day), my muscles ACHED in the evenings. I now travel prepared to relieve some of the muscle fatigue each night. The combination of cold and hot sensations is divine.

I hope that something here jumped out to you and you can add to your travel planning. I’m beyond thrilled that I get to pack and Jetset again!
