Quebec City Day 2

We had an early rise to beat the heat on our second full day. We planned a busy day for the final day of our trip.

Coffee & Drinks

  • Smith Cafe: we stopped at one of Smith Cafe's numerous locations for a tasty coffee and croissant before starting our day. They roast their own coffee, which I love. It was an excellent start for our trip's final (non-travel) day.

  • Les Cafes du Soleil. Another quaint little coffee shop we found in Old Quebec City. We grabbed a coffee and yummy little cookie, perfect for a midday pick-me-up.

  • 1608 Bar. This was one of the highlights of the trip. We had seen this beautiful bar while on our tour of the Fairmont (see below) and couldn't wait to return for cocktails. We sat at the bar with an incredibly friendly (and talented) bartender who chatted with us throughout the evening. Named for the year that Quebec City was founded, it was dazzling yet cozy. We each tried a couple of cocktails, each beautiful and delicious.

Food

  • La Buche. This restaurant is known for its traditional Quebec food and did not disappoint. It was our final day, and I still had yet to get a poutine; this was my chance. My poutine was exactly what I wanted, and my husband ordered the "Rabbit Wings." The food was excellent, and the atmosphere was enjoyable. We were sat next to a railing with hundreds of names scratched in, and I found a little space to add our initials to the mix.

  • Polina Pizzéria. For our final evening, we settled on pizza at a cute little restaurant with windows open to the busy streets.

Experiences/Sites

  • La Citadelle de Quebec. We didn't realize there were admission and tours when we arrived at the Citadelle. We decided to head on in and check this out. We're suckers for stumbling upon unexpected tours and history and loved learning all about the fortress, the Royal 22e Régiment and Batisse the goat.

  • Fairmont Le Chateau Frontenac. To avoid the high temperatures midday, we booked a tour of the Fairmont Frontenac. Living in Calgary, we've been to the Fairmont Banff several times and know that these hotels are historic and beautiful. I thoroughly enjoyed the tour, learning about the timeline of the hotel being built, the many famous people who have stayed there and the interesting and exciting events that have taken place within the walls.

  • Funiculaire Du Vieux Quebec. We hopped on the Funicular to head back down to rue Petit-Champlain for the touristy fun of it.

  • La Boutique de Noel de Quebec. An unexpected stop was the year-round Christmas store. We like to add a new Christmas ornament to our tree annually, so when we travel, we try to buy an ornament to commemorate the trip.
